The intersections of Hathaway Road, Nauset Street and Mount Pleasant Street, also known as the Hathaway Triangle, have been a cause of concern for motorists and pedestrians alike for decades.

The City of New Bedford has acknowledge this concern and hopes to make some major improvements for the sake of safety as well as improving traffic flow.

An improvement project is currently in the early stages of development conducted by the Department of Public Infrastructure and consulting firm CDM Smith, Inc..

DPI Deputy Commissioner Zeb Arruda said residents are welcome to visit his 1105 Shawmut Avenue office to check out the current designs and chime in on the project.

"They can come in, they can look at the plans, give us their opinion, let us know what they think and we'll try and incorporate it," said Arruda.

One of three designs will be submitted with a proposal to MassDOT on February 11, but things will be far from finalized at that point.
