New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge Stuck Open Again
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Once again, the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge will be closed for several hours due to a mechanical issue.
Another Mechanical Issue Closes Route 6 Bridge
According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the swing bridge that spans Route 6 from New Bedford to Fairhaven is currently stuck in the “open” position, which means it is closed to vehicular traffic.
MassDOT said the closure is expected to be in place for several hours.
“Drivers traveling through the affected area should seek alternate routes, expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution,” MassDOT said in a release.

New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge Has Experienced Multiple Closures This Year
Back in March, the bridge was closed to vehicles twice in one week for what was also described as “a mechanical issue.”
Recent Repairs Were Completed Earlier This Month
It was also closed again for two weekends in April and May, with the work expected to have been completed by May 4.
