A New Bedford man is facing drug trafficking and gun charges. Thirty-one year old Ryan Cabral was arrested Tuesday after police carried out a search at his Rodney Street home and recovered 179 grams of heroin with a street value of about $18,000, along with a firearm, drug paraphenalia, and $25,000 in cash.

Lt. Amos Melo says police found a cannister in Cabral's backyard that contained a loaded 22-caliber firearm, along with the drugs.

Cabral is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in New Bedford District Court on charges of trafficking in heroin, possession of a firearm with out a license, unlawful possession of ammunition and other firearm violations. .
