A hazardous weather outlook is in place for much of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

According to the National Weather Service, tonight and tomorrow morning there is a low chance of a few patches of light freezing rain or freezing drizzle across Northwestern Massachusetts.

Tuesday through Sunday, a strong low pressure system will pass west of Southern New England on Christmas Eve and into Christmas morning. This system is expected to bring heavy rainfall and may include flooding in some urban areas where there is poor drainage.

There may also be a brief period of southerly wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph on Christmas Eve night on the coastal plain. However, chances are that the gusts will most likely occur Christmas afternoon and night across the entire region as the winds turn west.

Splash over and minor coastal flooding is likely in Eastern Massachusetts during the midday high tides on Tuesday and Wednesday, while minor coastal flooding is possible on the South Coast. There is still some uncertainty regarding this system, so stay tuned for more information.
