The North Chatham, Massachusetts-based Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) says a white shark named Danny, tagged by AWSC for tracking purposes in 2019, has been found deceased in Canada.

AWSC announced in a Facebook post, "Danny was first identified in 2014 and then tagged by Dr. Greg Skomal, working with the AWSC research team in 2019 off Cape Cod."

"Historically, Danny has been detected on the Cape Cod receiver array, with detections frequently along the outer Cape," according to the post. "He has also been detected on acoustic receivers off Nantucket, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Georgia, Cape Canaveral, off the Chesapeake, North Carolina, Maine, Nova Scotia, and in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence over the years."

Danny certainly got around.

"Over the past six years, his acoustic tag has provided invaluable data, helping scientists better understand white shark movements and behavior throughout the Northwest Atlantic," according to AWSC.

Fox Weather says, "Danny resided mostly along the shores of Cape Cod but had set off 'pings' as far north as Nova Scotia and as far south as Georgia, bringing information on white sharks' migration patterns and behavior."

"A team in Canada is conducting a necropsy to gather more information on his cause of death, as well as grabbing samples that will further scientists' understanding of the species," according to the network.

AWSC's website says, "The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy provides the most comprehensive publicly available information on white sharks in the Northwest Atlantic.

The AWSC's Shark Center is open to visitors at 235 Orleans Road in Chatham, Massachusetts. Hours of operation are listed at AtlanticWhiteShark.org.
