Mezza Luna Named Restaurant of the Year for Massachusetts

The Retailers Association of Massachusetts has spoken and the results are in.

During the 24^th annual RAM Awards of Excellence ceremony, the 2023 Restaurant of the Year was awarded to a special place that has been operated by the same devoted family for almost 90 years.

Mezza Luna in Buzzards Bay is a “culinary landmark” on Main Street, and Jon Hurst, the president of RAM, called it a “truly special restaurant in many ways.”

For the past 24 years, RAM has recognized outstanding retailers that continue to make Massachusetts a hub for shopping and dining.

EJ Cubellis, the owner and operator of Mezza Luna, has been a member of RAM for 20 years, and he was thrilled to be recognized this year as a place for high-quality cuisine.

How Mezza Luna Got Started

The owner sat down with RAM and shared the rich history that lives within the four walls of Mezza.

Cubellis’s grandmother lived in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and one day, she took a drive down to Buzzards Bay where she saw a produce stand.

“They were selling tomatoes, and they were maybe getting ten cents for a tomato, and my grandmother, the entrepreneur that she was, she goes, ‘Our tomatoes are nicer than them, and we only get five cents,'" Cubellis shared. "They rented the building for six months, they put a produce stand together out front and that’s how it started."

What to Expect at Mezza Luna

“If I were to describe this place, it would be like going to your grandmother’s house,” Cubellis said.

Mezza Luna offers a wide variety of comfort food, from delectable steaks to traditional pasta and fish dishes. It's a home away from home for many, thanks to the comfortable atmosphere and a menu that hasn't disappointed for the past 80 years.
