Buzzards Bay Bookstore Celebrates Black History All Year

Black History Month, which ends Feb. 28, shouldn't be the only time we learn about Black history. One Bourne bookstore has one amazing lesson to teach.

FootPrints Cafe in Buzzards Bay is a Black-owned, woman-owned bookstore and soon-to-be coffee shop that celebrates diversity year-round.

I was lucky to get on the phone for a few minutes with Stefanie Corbin, the owner and sole employee. As you can imagine, she has her hands full. The cafe's brick-and-mortar location, 43 Main St., is about to celebrate being open for a year. Corbin began this project from her home in November 2020 as the pandemic delayed the opening of the actual storefront.

Corbin really wanted to create a safe space where anyone could come and learn, appreciate and educate themselves on Black authors and contributors. She got the idea when she witnessed her grade school-age children experiencing racism and felt compelled to do something.

Now that the bookstore is open, Corbin is already thinking about expanding the services and making the place a coffee shop, too.

Opening a business is not easy. Opening one in the middle of a pandemic makes Corbin's story extra-special.
