President Donald Trump is vowing to use the military to build the border wall if congressional Democrats refuse to approve the funding he is seeking to complete the job.

Trump was elected on his promise to build the wall and secure the southern border. Democrats know that and hope this is his Achilles heel as the 2020 election draws near.

It may well be if he doesn't figure something out soon. Even with majorities in the House and Senate, Trump does not have enough votes to avert a Senate filibuster.

If the refusal to fund the wall was a legit policy difference, that would be one thing. It's not. The very same Democrats who oppose the wall were strong advocates for it just a few years ago. That's not principle, that's politics.

Trump's promise to the people was to build a wall. Without or with the support of congressional Democrats, he should build it. If it means using the military and the Pentagon to get it done, then do it.

Political posturing makes great discussion on the cable news networks but does little to protect the nation.

Build the wall!
