The town of Brookline has voted to ban the use of Styrofoam food and drink containers at local restaurants.  At a special Town Meeting last night, residents voted 169-to-27 for the ban, which will take effect in December, 2013.  Supporters of the ban cited the environmental impact of cups, which are not biodegradable and are hard to recycle. Later this week the town will consider banning plastic checkout bags at supermarkets and other retailers.
