Boston Mayor Wu’s Poll Numbers High Ahead of November Election
Boston Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu's public feud with Trump Administration border czar Tom Homan over illegal immigrants might sink a lesser public official. However, Boston is a blue city in one of the bluest states in the nation.
The spat makes Wu a folk hero, a legend to many who despise Trump and support open borders. MAGA is not popular in Boston, Massachusetts and Wu understands that.
Wu openly flaunts Boston's sanctuary city status, rubbing Homan's nose in her open defiance. Wu's behavior may cause problems for her at some point, but it will solidify her support with the base, kind of like Trump.

Wu spent tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars to prep for an appearance before a congressional committee investigating the immigration issue. For Wu, it was money well spent, and taxpayers didn't seem to mind.
Wu assumed the office in November 2021, when Marty Walsh resigned to join the Biden Administration. She will be on the ballot for re-election on November 4, 2025.
Wu is expected to be primaried by two Democrats, Kerry Augustin and Josh Kraft, and could face a challenge from Independent candidate Domingos DaRosa. None of her potential opponents are expected to offer much of a fight against Wu.

Boston's WCVB-TV reported that a new poll from the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College indicates Wu is on solid footing.
The station said 46 percent of respondents believe Boston is headed in the right direction, and the poll "linked unhappiness among voters to national leadership, rather than local leaders."
The poll gives Wu 61 percent voter approval and "half of likely voters believe she deserves reelection." Not a bad place to be just months before the election.
