Body of Missing Boater Recovered in Somerset
SOMERSET — The body of a man who was reported missing on Saturday has been found in the Taunton River.
Somerset Fire Chief Jamison Barros reported that after a multi-agency coordinated search, the missing boater's body was recovered from the river on Sunday morning.
The fire department learned Saturday that at about 5 p.m. on Friday, a man had taken a dinghy onto the river from the Somerset Yacht Club on Gay Street, but had not returned.
He has not yet been identified.
Multiple state and local public safety agencies — including state and environmental police, Somerset Fire Department, and the state police dive team and air wing — conducted a side-scan sonar operation on Sunday.
On Sunday morning the air wing identified an area of interest just south of Pratt Avenue.
Searchers recovered the man's body at about 11 a.m. Sunday.
The man's death is under investigation.
