BLACKSTONE — Authorities are asking for help from the public in identifying the person who shot and killed a pet cat with an arrow in Blackstone on Thursday night.

Acting Chief Gregory Gilmore says at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Blackstone Police received a call regarding a pet cat that had been shot with an arrow on Old Mendon Street.

The owners of the cat took the pet to a local animal hospital. The cat was subsequently transported to Tufts Animal Hospital in Grafton where it was unable to be saved and needed to be euthanized due to its injuries.

A Blackstone Police detective and an Animal Control Officer immediately launched an investigation into the incident. As of Friday morning, it is unknown who shot the cat and police are working to identify the person responsible.

The arrow that struck the cat was short and was possibly fired from a crossbow.

Anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area last night or has information about the incident is asked to call Blackstone Police at 508-883-1212.
