Betts Gaining Ground in All-Star Balloting
With the latest update of the American League All-Star balloting announced today, the Boston Red Sox still have three players firmly positioned in the starting lineup.
While designated hitter David Ortiz, shortstop Xander Bogaerts and center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. are all poised for starting slots thanks to fan voting, another Red Sox outfielder is making some serious noise and gaining a lot of ground in an effort to join his teammates.
Boston right fielder Mookie Betts has soared up the charts since the last update and is now just behind Baltimore Orioles outfielder Mark Trumbo for fourth place among all AL outfielders.
Betts has also registered the third highest total of votes by an AL outfielder since the Week 2 poll update. So, if he is to stay on this pace there is a real chance he leapfrogs both Trumbo and Kansas City Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain for a spot in the starting lineup.
With balloting set to close in two weeks, however, Betts is running out of time.
Betts is slashing .289/.339/.524 with 14 homers, 47 RBI and 58 runs scored in 62 games, so far.
