U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is about to return to the United States.

A defense official says Bergdahl, who has been recuperating in Germany after being released from five years in Taliban captivity, is scheduled to arrive early tomorrow at Brooke Army medical Center in Texas.

Officials had said earlier that plans called for Bergdahl to be reunited with his family at the Texas base, and to spend more time there recuperating.

But they've kept a lid on details of his condition and his travel plans, out of concern that he not be rushed back into the public spotlight. There is a continuing uproar over the circumstances of his capture and his release.

Many have criticized the Obama administration for agreeing to release five Taliban prisoners from detention at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in exchange for Bergdahl. Some of Bergdahl's former Army colleagues have accused him of deserting his post.
