New Bedford's North End is about to get spicier. Baja's Fresh Grill is opening its fifth Massachusetts location.

The first New Bedford location at 807 Ashley Boulevard has been under construction for the past three months as the new tenants fit out the Mexican restaurant to replace what was once a Dunkin'.

Baja’s Expansion Across New England

The New Bedford location will join Attleboro, Raynham, Worcester, and Somerset on the Baja's roster. There will now be 20 locations of the locally-owned restaurant chain between Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, a milestone that is not lost on Andrea Mota Boutros. She and her late husband, David, launched the business in Rhode Island back in 2009. She shared that they never imagined reaching 20 stores and that her husband would be incredibly proud.

Opening Plans and Soft Opening Date

According to the property’s landlord, Michael Panagakos, Baja’s has secured its temporary 30-day occupancy permit from the City of New Bedford and is on schedule for a soft opening this Friday, December 12.

Build Your Own Baja’s Experience

The setup is similar to what diners have seen from the Caliente Mexican Grill restaurants around the SouthCoast. Guests can walk up and build your own, selecting the ingredients they want included in their dish as it is prepared fresh in real time.

The restaurant is planning an event in the near future that includes giving away free burritos to the public over a two-hour period. We will be sure to keep you informed.
