The United Way of Greater New Bedford will host its Annual Youth Day of Caring this coming Friday, May 4.

The event matches area high school students with nonprofits that need assistance with various projects.

This is a unique opportunity for students to take part in valuable community service, while providing local non-profits with much needed support. This year, 175 youth from high schools will volunteer at 13 organizations in Greater New Bedford.

The event is sponsored by BankFive, Tremblay's Bus Co. and Stop & Shop.

The students are from the following schools: Bishop Stang High School, Fairhaven High School, Global Learning Charter Public School, Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech, New Bedford High School, Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School, Trinity Day Academy and Whaling City High School.

They will be volunteering at locations such as Buttonwood Park Zoo (New Bedford), Better Community Living (Dartmouth), Coastline Elderly Services (New Bedford), Mass Audubon South Coast Sanctuaries (Westport), My Brother's Keeper (Dartmouth), NorthStar Learning Centers (New Bedford), Sharing the Harvest Community Farm (Dartmouth), the Family Pantry-Damien's Place (East Wareham), The Salvation Army (New Bedford), Community Boating Center (New Bedford), West End Day Nursery (New Bedford) and the YWCA (New Bedford).

Around Town With Phil is brought to you as a public service by Flagship Insurance.
