Are Conservatives Happier Than Liberals?

"If you're not a liberal at twenty, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative at forty, you have no brain." Winston Churchill's famous saying implies that as some people go through life, their political views change as they grow older. Ask yourself  whether or not  your own political positions have changed since you were twenty. And while we're at it, can political ideology bring you true happiness? Last week, a study in SCIENCE was published online showing conservative members of Congress tend to say they're more content with life compared to liberals, but is that true?

A few studies of late have shown conservatives tend to report greater satisfaction in life than liberals, but social scientists believe this could be partly because the cultural and religious beliefs of conservatives are more adaptive. For instance, conservatives believe human rights come from God and not government. However, liberals smile more and those smiles show more genuine enjoyment and they use more positive language than their conservative counterpoints.
