Massachusetts AG Blames Trump for Canadian Wildfire Smoke Darkening Bay State Skies

I've lost track of how many lawsuits Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell has filed or has become a party to against the Trump Administration, but it is at least five dozen.

Now, the A.G. is even blaming President Donald Trump for the miserable wildfire smoke that has darkened our skies, reddened our sunsets, and left us wheezing for relief.

AG Andrea Campbell Ties Hazy Skies to Federal Climate Policy

On Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Campbell asked her Facebook followers, "Have you noticed the hazy yellow skies over Massachusetts?"

"The wildfire smoke blowing in is a stark reminder that the climate crisis is here," Campbell posted, seemingly unaware that the majority of wildfires are sparked by lightning strikes rather than global warming.

"If Trump succeeds in abandoning his duty to curb greenhouse gas emissions, wildfires like this will become more common," she wrote. "I'm suing because we can't wait to act."

Canadian Origins: Forestry Experts Debate the Real Cause

Mass Daily News reminded us, "The wildfire smoke behind the hazy skies over Massachusetts this week is drifting in from Canadian wildfires – the same seasonal pattern that has painted New England skies orange and yellow for years."

The wildfires currently ravaging Ontario, Canada for weeks have burned their way across the border into the United States, primarily in Northern Minnesota.

Trump Responds With Threat of Canadian Tariffs over Air Pollution

Fox News Digital reported, "Forestry experts say Canada could reduce the severity of some fires through more aggressive forest management."

"We're holding Canada responsible for the fact that they are not properly maintaining their forests and brush therein, and the United States is being unnecessarily invaded by filthy, polluted, and unhealthy air," Trump wrote on Truth Social, while threatening to tack the economic costs to the U.S. onto tariffs on Canadian imports.

Lord knows our air is dirty enough already here in Massachusetts without help from our friends up north.
