NEW BEDFORD — After-school activities were canceled Friday at Keith Middle School after parents expressed concern about possible gang violence in the area.

School spokesman Arthur Motta says Principal Warley Williams made the decision due to concerns by parents.

Keith is located across the street from New Bedford High School.

A 17-year old New Bedford High student was shot and killed a week ago at Ashley Boulevard and Tallman Street, and signs of revenge were left at a makeshift shrine at the scene of the killing.

One parent told WBSM News, her daughter said there were "police everywhere" when school was dismissed on Friday.
