It's the beginning of the year and you vowed to get yourself into shape this year.  You went out and bought a gym membership, now what?  It's great that you did that and even better that you want to get in shape.  There are a few things you should do before you jump right into the gym and start using all the equipment and lifting the weights.  Most gyms have trainers or trained people to show you the proper way to use the machines available to make sure you get the best workout possible and not get hurt.  There are many different pieces of exorcise equipment in most gyms that it can be difficult to use them without instruction, plus you run the risk of looking silly if you do it wrong, take the time and learn the how it works.  Then ease yourself into a routine, the last thing you want to do is go full steam ahead and tear a muscle or end up with  an injury. You should also talk with your doctor before you start going full steam ahead, he will be the best guide to go at the pace that is good for you.  I'm sure he will be happy to hear that you are going to get yourself in shape and maybe lose some weight.
