For over four decades, the Town of Acushnet has been home to two liquefied natural gas storage tanks off of Peckham Road. That means the Acushnet Fire Department must be prepared at all times to deal with a possible LNG-related emergency.

Fire Chief Kevin Gallagher says the entire department is in the process of receiving updated training on LNG firefighting, with a dozen firefighters training at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy over the weekend.

Gallagher tells WBSM News all of the Town's firefighters receive initial LNG training when they go through the academy. "The classes that we're taking this year are much more specific, much more detailed, and offer us an opportunity to spend more time honing our skills, if you will," said Gallagher.

Gallagher says the rest of the department will receive updated LNG training at the firefighter academy over the next few weeks.
