November is a big month for the Boys and Girls Club of New Bedford and Wareham and one of its top supporters, Dr. Michael Rocha.

November 23 is the date for the Boys and Girls Club's biggest fundraiser of the year, the "Steak and Burger Night." The virtual event will feature award presentations and scholarship recipients, plus remarks by former New England Patriot Matt Light and a musical concert.  Tickets can be obtained through the club's website.

Dr. Rocha stopped by Townsquare Sunday this week to discuss the "Steak and Burger" fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club. He said the club has taken a big hit financially this year, and needs your help.

Dr. Rocha last week was named a "Myra Kraft Community MVP" award winner by Robert Kraft and the New England Patriots Foundation, one of 25 award winners named this year. The award highlights individuals who perform volunteer efforts throughout their community.

Dr. Rocha was the founder of the Wellness Initiatives on Sundays at the Boys and Girls Club in New Bedford. Those programs are continuing remotely because of the pandemic. He's also the creator of the "Walk With the Doc" program on Saturdays.

Rocha says he spent a lot of time in his youth at the Boys and Girls Club and learned how to play basketball there. Rocha was the starting point guard on the New Bedford High School Whalers state championship team in 1993. Dr. Rocha's interview can be heard here:
