One Dartmouth man got the opportunity of a lifetime when he was asked to sing alongside American Idol star Katharine McPhee and her husband, Grammy Award-winning writer and producer David Foster.

Little did Jordan Paiva know when he planned an elegant date night out in Providence with his wife to attend An Intimate Evening with David Foster & Katharine McPhee that he would find himself serenading a couple of his idols.

He's attended a few of McPhee's shows, but this was his first time seeing her husband, Foster, who is best known for creating legends within the music industry. Whitney Houston, Michael Buble, Celine Dion, Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, and Michael Jackson are just a few examples of artists with whom Foster has collaborated. It's no wonder he has16 Grammys.

"We went out as planned and in the middle of the show, the house lights came up and David wanted to see if anyone wanted to sing," Paiva said. "I was shocked to see other people from Dartmouth in the audience as well. My wife then yelled, 'He can sing,' to David and the next thing you know I'm dueting with Katharine."

Kayla Paiva recorded the entire performance of "The Prayer," a duet made famous by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli.:

"It was a dream come true, part two," Paiva said. "Part one was the day I went on stage at the Dunkin' Donuts Center (before it was The Amp)  to sing with Josh Groban. I guess you can say that Providence is my lucky charm. I simply took a few deep breaths and I was ready."

After the show, the Paivas stood around and ended up catching Foster on his way out. He recognized Paiva and agreed to take a photo with him. It's safe to say he got more than just his money's worth. It was a night out he and his wife will never forget.

"David's a legend to me; he created so many people," Paiva said. "It was just supposed to be a simple date night. I even made the joke a few weeks back that I would love to sing for David. I honestly couldn't believe it. Definitely a dream come true."
