Dartmouth Police officers pulled a woman from a burning car on Monday, then later charged her with motor vehicle violations.

According to a release from the Dartmouth Police Department, Officer Colby Cusson spotted the burning vehicle Monday in the median on State Road near Applebee's Restaurant. As he approached the vehicle he saw a woman seated inside.

Officer Cusson removed the woman from the vehicle and he and another officer provided medical aid. Dartmouth Firefighters responded to the scene and put out the fire.

The woman was transported to St. Luke's Hospital for evaluation. No further information is available about her condition.

An investigation revealed that the car left the roadway about 150 feet prior to coming to a stop. Police say the car was not property registered or insured.

The operator was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating after revocation of registration, and failure to stay within marked lanes.

Police say because there were concerns about the woman's ability to safety operate a motor vehicle, a form was filed with the Mass. Registry of Motor Vehicles to suspend her driver's license.
