Former Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine is suggesting that slugger David Ortiz quit on the team this past season.  While appearing on "Costas Tonight," Valentine suggested that Ortiz shut himself down after Boston's blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Ortiz went on the DL on July 18th and returned to the lineup on August 24th.

The Red Sox made the trade the following day and Ortiz didn't play again for the rest of the season.  Valentine was fired after only one season in Boston.  ESPN reports Ortiz and the BoSox are close to a new two-year deal.
