Westport and State Police along with the Bristol County District Attorney's Office are investigating a fatal car crash Saturday night in Westport.

The single car crash happened around 11:30PM when the vehicle left Drift Road, hit a utility pole, flipped over and landed on the opposite side of the road. The two rear seat passengers, who were not wearing seat belts, were ejected from the car.

A female passenger was declared dead at the scene.  WJAR Channel 10 identifies the victim as 16 year old Erika Hall.  The other passenger was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

The two people in the front seat, who were wearing seatbelts, suffered minor injuries. All four were students at Westport High School. The school is providing counseling services for students who may need them.

The District Attorney's office is trying to determine whether the driver should have had passengerfs in the car because of his age.  In Mass., drivers need to have a license for at least six months, before they can drive with passengers in the car who are not immediate family.
