Virginia has elected a new governor and New York City a new mayor on a busy Election Day around the country.

Terry McAuliffe defeated Republican State Attorney General Ken Cuccinell in Virginia.  McAuliffe said even though the two had their differences, that does not mean his opponent is not a man of principle.  McAuliffe's campaign had gotten a big boost from President Obama and former President Bill Clinton.

In New York, Liberal Democrat Bill de Blasio sailed to victory in the race to succeed Mayor Michael Bloomberg.  This marked the first time a Democrat has won the mayor's race in two decades.

In Boston, State Rep. Marty Walsh was elected Mayor, in a tight race over City Councilor John Connelly.  Walsh replaces Thomas Menino, who's been the Mayor of Boston for 20 years.
