State Police are releasing more details on a fiery fatal crash in Middleborough this morning.

Commanding Officer Anthony Thomas of Massachusetts State Police Troop D briefed reporters this morning on the wrong-way crash on I-495 northbound near Exit 3 that took place just after 12am.

Trooper Thomas says the lone occupant of the vehilce traveling south in the northbound high speed lane hit the other car with four people inside head-on. "The preliminary investigation leads investigators to believe that the wrong-way operator's vehicle struck the northbound vehicle head on. The crash impact caused the northbound vehicle to become engulfed in fire," said Trooper Thomas.

The victims in the crash are said to all be young adults. State Police are still notifying the victims' families.

Trooper Thomas says it's too early in the investigation to determine why the driver was headed in the wrong direction.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
