The U.S. Ambassador to Portugal made a stop at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday.

Robert Sherman was appointed Ambassador about a year ago. He told a crowd of about 100 students and faculty members assembled in the Claire T. Carney Library, the experience has been great.

Sherman says he's not in Portugal for a vacation...he's there to solidify ties between the Portuguese government and the United States. The Ambassador says he's working on issues like economic development, and improving the business relationships between the two countries.

Sherman says in general, America does not know Portugal, and he wants to change that.

Joining the Ambassador at UMass Dartmouth was Congressman Joseph Kennedy, State Senator Marc Pacheco of Taunton, and State Rep, Antonio Cabral of New Bedford.  Sherman is a native of Brockton.
