Two people have reportedly been shot at Taft Union High School in Taft, California.

The incident took place Thursday morning around 9 a.m. before the suspected gunman, who is a student, was taken into custody about 20 minutes later. A spokesman for the Kern County Sheriff's Department said, "We have a suspect in custody," noting the suspect in question is a student.

One person -- a student -- was shot and airlifted to a hospital, while the second, believed to be a teacher, did not seek any medical attention due to only having suffered minor injuries. There are reports those injuries may not even be affiliated with the shooting.

According to Sheriff Donny Youngblood, the suspect shot a classmate, who is in critical condition. The gunman tried to shoot another student, but missed and hit a teacher, instead.

Authorities could not elaborate about rumors the media had heard from parents of students, claiming the suspect was suspended last year for having a list of classmates he intended to hurt in some manner.

Taft is located about 30 minutes outside of Bakersfield.
