Three seniors from New Bedford High School will face charges in connection with vandalism at the school on May 30.

According to the Standard Times, Jose Matias and Derryn Pinette, both 18 years old, and a male minor will be charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony and malicious defacing of property.

Police say the seniors were able to gain access to the school the night before, dousing parts of the school with fire extinguishers and other materials from the home economics classroom. Students were sent home that morning and the school had to be thoroughly cleaned over the weekend.

Matias, Pinette, and the third suspect will be barred from attending their senior prom and graduation exercises on June 12.

Police said a review of surveillance footage from the school and interviews with staff and students led to the identification of the suspects.

It's still not clear if students will have to make up the day they missed at the end of the school year.
