A Wareham man will soon face multiple charges in connection with a drunk driving incident in Rochester.

Rochester Police were called to the scene of a car accident around 9pm Monday night on Route 28 near the intersection of Route 58. Upon arrival, police found a Ford pickup truck that had sustained heavy damage in the roadway, and a witness told police the driver had fled into the woods.

The driver, identified as 40-year-old Michael Jefferson of Wareham was found near the scene and transported to Tobey Hospital for medical treatment.

Police say they found a number of beer cans in the truck, some empty.

The accident scene was more than 400 feet long, with two severed telephone poles and a smashed mailbox.

Jefferson is being held without bail and will face numerous charges upon his release from the hospital including operating under the influence, driving with a suspended license, and leaving the scene of an accident.
