DARTMOUTH — A Taunton man faces charges after smashing a display case and stealing jewelry from a store in the Dartmouth Mall.

Dartmouth Police responded to an armed robbery at Jewelry Express in the Dartmouth Mall on Monday at approximately 8:33 p.m.

Witnesses to the crime told police that the suspect had used a hammer to smash a glass display case and stole assorted jewelry before fleeing. The jewelry had an estimated value of $87,000.

Police were able to gather a description of the suspect from eyewitnesses. Police also obtained the license plate number of the suspect's vehicle that he used to flee.

Soon after a regional broadcast regarding the vehicle was put out, Lakeville Police officers located the suspect and his vehicle in their town.

Dartmouth Police Detective Derek Sousa met Lakeville Police and arrested the suspect Drew A. Beck, 30, of 840 County Street, Taunton. Beck is charged with armed robbery, vandalism, use of a motor vehicle in the commission of a felony, and larceny of property valued over $1,200.

Beck's vehicle was impounded. Police are continuing their investigation.
