Quick work by New Bedford Firefighters helped prevent some major fire damage Wednesday afternoon in the Downtown area.

Fire crews responded to a truck fire just before 5pm in the vicinity of Kempton and Hill Streets.  Fire officials say the truck, a tractor-trailer, was parked behind a house that was recently demolished, and was being used to haul away debris.

The truck's engine-block and cab was completely destroyed, and vinyl siding was also damaged at the Humphrey, Covill and Coleman Insurance agency.  Chief Clark tells WBSM News, fire investigators now have video of a possible suspect.

Clark says the fire damage to the insurance building could have been much more extensive had the wind been blowing east instead of west.  Firefighters extinguished the fire in about ten minutes.
