A New Bedford man is arrested in connection with a rash of car break-ins over the past several weeks.

According to Captain Joseph Cordeiro, witnesses called police just before 10pm last night, reporting a suspicious man trying to gain entry to a Smith Street home. The witnesses followed the man, who was also seen rummaging through a parked car on Chancery Street.

Police arrived on the scene and arrested 21-year-old Dino Digaetano of Sycamore Street. Police say Digaetano was found carrying a knife, prescription pills, and a $5.25 in loose change.

He's being charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime, possession of a Class E substance, and carrying a certain weapon.
