A New Bedford home got a knock on the door Tuesday night from a man claiming he had been stabbed.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says that officers responded to the call around 6:45 p.m. and headed to the area of Salisbury St. and David St.

Upon arrival they found the victim had left the scene and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital by his girlfriend.

Vicente says the victim, identified as a 40-year-old man from New Bedford, had suffered a single puncture wound to his abdomen area.

The man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he underwent surgery and was last reported to be in stable condition.

Vicente said arrangements were being made to speak to the victim sometime on Wednesday.

Anyone with information on this incident is being asked to contact Detective Steven Wadman at 508-991-6300 ext. 79511.
