A mock disaster drill Thursday at St. Lukes Hospital involved public safety personnel from New Bedford, Acushnet and Fairhaven.

According to Southcoast Hospital's interim Safety Officer Dave Camara, the drill consisted of responding to mass casualties resulting from a "dirty bomb" going off in the area.

More than 100 UMass Dartmouth nursing students served as "victims' suffering from radiation poisoning and serious burns.

Camara tells WBSM News, the drill may be a light-hearted exercise to some, but to first responders its serious business.....

St. Luke's Hospital's Emergency Department and local police and fire units joined in the exercise, running the victims through decontamination units and other procedures.

The make up for the victims was done by Gloria and Company of Fairhaven.
