St. John Parishoners Protest Outside Bishop’s Home [AUDIO]
Parishioners and supporters of St. John The Baptist Parish on County Street in New Bedford continue to fight the planned closing of the church, now set for November 4th.
An estimated 200 parishoners gathered outside Bishop George Coleman's house in Fall River last night, praying that he reconsider his decision. Bishop Coleman was not present during the hour long protest, but John Kearns, a spokesman for the Fall River Diocese, said the decision to close St. John's was made after lots of study.
85 Year old George Ladino, a life-long parishoner at St. John's, tells WBSM News, having his church close is something he can't accept.
The diocese is recommending that St. John parishoners move to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish, less than a mile away.
