The Spartans are State Champions after Bishop Stang's basketball team won the Division 3 Basketball Championship in Springfield on Saturday.

Speaking with WBSM's Phil Paleologos team member Matt Golden says this win is even more impressive when you consider how young many of the team's starting players are.

"We started three underclassmen, and we had alot of younger guys on the team, and a very hungry team, and we weren't ready to just let that one slip away," said Golden "so from day one in the gym we knew what we were capable of, but we also knew we had to work to get it and I think the team did a really good job of stepping up and going out and getting it."

This is also an early win for colbey santos who is in his second year as the team's head coach.

Six members of that team are seniors who are graduating this year.

While admitting they will be losing some valuable players team member Adrian DeBrito said he's confident the team will also have a good season next year.

"They still have nine other guys returning so I think they'll have another great season," said DeBrito.

Golden echoed that sentiment saying he's heard that some great talent could be joining the team next year and building on an already talented roster.

"There's some talk of some different kids coming in," said Golden "maybe some kids transferring in, so that would definitely help us, I've heard some really good names, but the nucleus we have right now are some great kids, I love them."

The spartans defeated Oxford with a final score of 80-64.
