The D.A.’s Office said preliminary investigation by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to that office and Somerset Police revealed that the driver of the truck was traveling westbound on Wilbur Avenue through the intersection of Brayton Avenue when he struck Martinville in the roadway.

The driver, a 49-year-old Swansea man, immediately stopped his truck and attempted to assist the victim.

Martinville was rushed to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The D.A.’s Office said the driver was cooperative with police and that no criminal charges have been filed, but that the investigation remains ongoing.
