The singer of the hit "It's My Party" is dead.  TMZ reports that Lesley Gore passed away Monday in New York after battling cancer.  She was 68-years-old.

Gore surged into the spotlight in 1963 with her chart-topping hit "It's My Party" from her first album, "I'll Cry If I Want To."  Gore's sequel to "It's My Party," "Judy's Turn to Cry," also made major waves on the charts.

Lesley Gore's other hits include the songs "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows" and "You Don't Own Me."

Gore earned an Academy Award nomination for her song "Out Here On My Own" from the musical "Fame."  (Metro Network Inc.)
