Dartmouth Middle School hosted a drill on Thursday to demonstrate how the school's recently installed Mutualink system would be used in a scenario that involved an armed shooter entering the building.

The Mutualink system has a panic button that school officials can press in the event of an emergency.

Once the system is activated, first responders will be able to view the school's video system in real time while linking the communications systems used by Police, Fire, EMS, and school officials.

Mary Lyons, Control Chief for the South Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT team, says these tools, especially the video surveillance system give law enforcement a better idea of how many shooters there, the types of weapons they have, and where they are located.

Darmouth is the first school system in Massachusetts to install the Mutualink system.
