JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) — The mayors of Cranston, Johnston and Warwick say Johnston has received a letter threatening schools, the second time in as many weeks.

Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena, Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian and Cranston Mayor Allan Fung gathered at Johnston Town Hall late Wednesday to reassure parents that public schools will be safe and that families should continue to send their children to school.

The mayors said the three school districts will have uniformed and undercover police officers present.

The officials would not disclose details of the letter, but said it contained a "physical threat." They said it was similar to the letter received Oct. 7, but was slightly less threatening.

Avedisian said officials believe the letter was probably written by the same person or persons who sent the first threat.
