New Bedford School officials say there will be a Robotics Program at New Bedford High School.

Concern about the program's future was raised after Ward Six Councilor Joe Lopes said he heard rumors that the Naval Undersea Warfare Center was ending their partnership with the school that provided mentoring and materials for the  program.

However, School Department spokesman Jonathan Carvalho says that is not the case.

"That rumor isn't accurate," says Carvalho "Ms. Coelho, the Headmaster, is working hard to maintain that partnership and all other partnerships that we have at the high school that are very important to us."

Tracy Warila, the Head of Corporate Communications for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, says they have no plans to end their partnership with New Bedford High School.

Councilor Lopes made a request for the School Department and Supt. Dr. Pia Durkin to address these questions within the next 30 days.

Carvalho says he has left a message with Councilor Lopes to discuss the issue further.
