The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced that a section of Route 79 in Fall River will be closed Saturday for work related to the Route 79/Braga Bridge Improvement Project.

The closure will run from 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and effect the area between the U-turn and Central Street.

Those traveling south on North Davol Street should use President Avenue, Robeson Street, and Bedford Street. Those traveling north should use North Main Street and President Avenue.

Access to the waterfront will be available for bicyclists and pedestrians through crossings at Central Street, President Street, and Anawan Street.

Police officers will be on hand at the work site and detour route to maintain traffic flow, according to a press release.

After Saturday's detour, traffic currently using North Davol Street for southbound and northbound travel will be shifted to South Davol Street which will be open to two-way traffic between the u-turn and Central Street.

MassDOT officials are asking drivers to seek alternate routes while the work is taking place..
