If you traveled in the South End on Thursday, you probably saw bulging trash bags on many street corners. They were put there by students from Roosevelt Middle School, taking part in the school's sixth annual Neighborhood Cleanup.

Teacher Debbie Dixon says the students were not in class, but they were still learning. "We're learning how care for our environment, what trash does to our community, and working with each other and having fun while they're doing it," said Dixon.

Several students who spoke with WBSM News said the cleanup means a lot. "From what we did I think we're making a big difference in the world and we're helping it out," said sixth grader Dominic DaSilva. Sixth grader Aliyah Jones was impressed with the work done by her classmates. " I think we did a great job, and I feel happy because we're helping the environment," she said.

Organizers wanted to thank their community partners;  St. Luke's Hospital donated gloves, Stop & Shop and Target provided the trash bags, and Lowe's donated mulch for the school's outdoor plants and shrubs.
