New Bedford Police responded to an alarm activation at Dunkin' Donuts on Conway Street around 3am this morning.

As the cruiser pulled into the lot, a white Chevy van came directly at them at a high rate of speed and their cruiser was sideswiped. The van sped away onto Conway Street before it crashed into a utility pole at Macarthur Drive.

The operator, identified as 21-year-old Ryan Stojack of Fairhaven,  fled on foot and after a long foot chase, was apprehended on Fair Street in the South End.

He was treated and released from St. Luke's and  is being arraigned in District Court on breaking and entering and numerous motor vehicle charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Police recovered the money taken in the break and returned it to the owner.
