It's July 17, 1949. WBSM is broadcasting out of New Bedford for the very first time. The radio personalities are gathered around a microphone, putting on a show for their audience. Someone's accompanying the performance on the piano, and it's like a party right there in the studio.

The reason I'm taking us back in time is because it's throwback Thursday, and I received a few items this week that deserve mentioning. Brownell "Brownie" Brightmen worked at WBSM when it first opened in 1949. He took these photos  and had this ashtray back then (featured below). His wife Claire brought them in Monday afternoon and said that she has no further use of them, but thought we might like to have them back. Well thank you for sharing Claire, because this is a piece of our history that I enjoyed very much (I do not smoke, but that ashtray will go to use as a desk ornament...when I get a desk)! =D
