The City of New Bedford is welcoming the tall ship Sagres to the port on Wednesday.

The three-masted ship is a training vessel for the Portuguese Navy.  It will arrive at State Pier around 9:30am, and will be open to the public, free of charge from 11am to 5pm both Wednesday and Thursday.

On Thursday at 10am, members of the ship's crew, the local Prince Henry Society and city officials will take part in a re-dedication of the Prince Henry the Navigator statue on Pope's Island.

Several lectures and receptions are also scheduled before the vessel leaves New Bedford Thursday evening.
