A New Bedford man was treated for multiple stab wounds after he says he was stalked and held up in the South End early Friday morning.

According to the Standard Times, the 25-year-old man told police he was walking near the Alfred J. Gomes School after midnight when he noticed a man following him. The stranger got closer to the victim and told him to hand over his wallet. The victim refused and a struggle ensued, resulting in the victim being stabbed multiple times.

The unnamed man was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from Rhode Island Hospital.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 6'3", wearing blue jeans and a long-sleeved black shirt.
